MANY HANDS MAKE PIANOS WORK
John Rippin, Donald Ray and friends presented their annual multi-handed piano recital on Saturday 23rd January at Chingford Parish Church.
This has become a favourite meeting place for Old Bucks who remember the skills of the two maestros who between them were head of music at BHCHS from 1951 until 1978.
We were treated to a splendid virtuoso display, with some superb arrangements of popular favourites as well as some delightful rarely heard pieces.
Each year, the audience numbers seem to increase. Slight panic this year when it became apparent that there were not enough programmes, but more were hastily printed. If the trend continues, the large church will need an extension to contain the audience.
John and Don were joined by Geoffrey Pratley (BHCHS 1951-58) and Terence Atkins (BHCHS 1958-65) as well as Tessa Wright and Nicholas Redding.
All proceeds are given to the East Anglian Childrens Hospices. The amount raised this year was a record - £2,000.
As always, we had plenty of Old Bucks in the audience. I suspect there were quite a few that I failed to recognise, but the following were among them (in no particular order!):
David Rolfe (1942), Andrew Brett (1955), Nick Brett (1958), Peter Sharp (1960), Peter Haseldine (1960), Howard Rootkin (1961), Philip Gwinn (1961), Jeff Harvey (1952), Ian Brown (1969), Ian Gold (1957), Bryan Rooney (staff), Eric Crook (1946), Roger Dell (1955), Mike Emerson (1965)
